North Zone

Delhi vs Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi

Pawan Negi, Pradeep Sangwan and Navdeep Saini shone as Delhi walloped a hapless J&K side by eight wickets in the Zonal T20 League on Friday (January 12).

Apart from Parvez Rasool, who top-scored with 37, none of the other J&K batters put up significant contributions as they could only score 100 for 9 in their 20 overs. The pacers, Sangwan and Saini, inflicted early damage with quick strikes, while Negi wiped out the middle order with his left-arm spin.

Chasing a sub-par total, Rishabh Pant went berserk, scoring 51 off just 33 balls, to take Delhi home to an easy win.

Brief Scores: J&K 100/9 (Parvez Rasool 37, Pawan Negi 3-27, Navdeep Saini 2-14) lost to Delhi 104/2 (Rishabh Pant 51) by eight wickets.

Central Zone

Madhya Pradesh vs Vidarbha, Raipur

Vidarbha continued their winning run with a narrow seven-run victory over Madhya Pradesh to consolidate top-spot in the table for central zone. The win was laid out thanks to a complete effort from the team, with the batsmen and bowlers both chipping in.

Apoorv Wankhade was the star with the bat, smashing 43 off just 23 balls late in the innings to give Vidarbha’s innings a much-needed push. They were in a spot at 115 for 4 in the 17th over, and looked like they would end up with a sub-par total. But the four fours and three sixes from Wankhade’s bat helped Vidarbha end with 156 for 5 in their 20 overs. Ishwar Pandey was MP’s best bowler with 1 for 10 in his three overs.

Having ended their innings on a high, Vidarbha’s bowling reflected a new sense of optimism. They struck early and regularly to leave MP in disarray. At 59 for 4 in the 11th over, MP had a huge ask on their hands. Anshul Tripathi and Sohraab Dhaliwal combined to add 71 runs for the fifth wicket, but once they departed, MP’s challenged petered away quickly. They eventually reached 149 for 9, to lose by seven runs. Ravikumar Thakur was the star with the ball, taking 4 for 29, while Akshay Karnewar and Shrikant Wagh took two wickets each. Rajneesh Gurbani further boosted his growing reputation by bowling four tight overs for just 19 runs.

Brief Scores: Vidarbha 156/5 (Apoorv Wankhade 43, Ganesh Satish 35, Ishwar Pandey 1-10) beat Madhya Pradesh 149/9 (Sohraab Dhaliwal 45, Ravikumar Thakur 4-29) by seven runs.

South Zone

Goa vs Kerala, Vishakapatnam

Kerala finally managed to shrug off their run of losses with a facile nine-wicket win over Goa.

Batting first, Goa ran into an impressive Kerala bowling unit, led by KM Asif and Abhishek Mohan, who took three wickets each. Keenan Vaz top-scored with 36, but none of the other batsmen could manage more than 25 as they were restricted to 138 for 8 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Sanju Samson teed off early for Kerala, slamming 65 off just 44 balls to pave the way for Kerala’s first win of the tournament. Vishnu Vinod and Arun Karthik hit 30s as Kerala won in the 16th over.

Brief Scores: Goa 138/8 (Keenan Vaz 36, KM Asif 3-25, Abhishek Mohan 3-30) lost to Kerala 140/1 (Sanju Samson 65) by nine wickets.

East Zone

Odisha vs Tripura, Ranchi

Odisha continued their upward surge in the East Zone table after smashing Tripura by 72 runs.

Rajesh Dhuper and Govinda Poddar hit 42 and 55 respectively, while the rest of the batting line-up chipped in with small cameos to help Odisha put up a challenging total of 179 for 6. Sanjay Majumder was Tripura’s best bowler with 2 for 24 in his three overs.

In reply, Suryakant Pradhan ran amok with a four-wicket haul to blow Tripura away. Gurinder Singh chipped with 39 lower down the order, but that just helped in delaying the inevitable. Debabrata Pradhan, Prayash Singh, Jayanta Behera, Abhishek Raut and Govinda Poddar all picked up one wicket apiece as Tripura folded for 107 in the 18th over.

Brief Scores: Odisha 179/6 (Govinda Poddar 55, Rajesh Dhuper 42, Sanjay Majumder 2-24) beat Tripura 107 (Gurinder Singh 39, Suryakant Pradhan 4-24) by 72 runs.
